Views & Sighting- Rebellious Resistance by Rev. Dr. Theresa Thames by way of “In Our Mothers’ Gardens.”

Rev. Dr. Theresa Thames’ presence and humble, yet postured honesty with her truth compelled me to find her outside of the documentary “In Our Mothers’ Gardens,” produced and directed by Shantrelle P. Lewis.

In Our Mothers’ Gardens (IOMG) is a new documentary from filmmaker Shantrelle P. Lewis, marking her directorial debut. The film first premiered at the 2020 BlackStar Film Festival, being awarded the Shine Award for best film and subsequently picked up by Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY, Variety reports (source: BOTWC)

Rev. Dr. Theresa Thames

All of the cast members of “In Our Mothers’ Garden” were phenomenal in how they presented their generational birthing, raising and accepting of ones’ journey. However, it was something about the quiet, unapologetic and driving truth of Rev. Dr. Theresa Thames that stuck out to me. It was as if her presence built through the documentary and every now and then she drops “bombs” of wow and she’s me. Rev. Dr. Theresa Thames truth was not scripted or performed and for that reason I felt it land softly on my lap right before the credits rolled.

I am inspired by who she is, where she has access to stand and the representation she carries with her in such areas where she– we need to be.

Definitely check her out and peep all the game in her eloquent sermon, “Rebellious Resistance” below.
